Welcome to Mr. Cartwright's PE class.
For elementary classes we will focus on developing gross motor skills through many different activities and games.
Middle school classes will develop skills through sports specific activities.
Physical Education guidelines and policies
I. Excuses from Participation
A. The Physical Education department and administration realize that it is not always possible to obtain a doctor's note on short notice. Parent notes will be accepted if a student is sick or injured. If a student will miss a week or more due to illness or injury, please obtain a doctor's note that includes when the student can return to limited or normal physical activity.
B. Students who are legally excused from class will still be required to stay with their class unless other arrangements have been worked out me and another teacher.
II. Grades
A. Each student will receive a daily grade consisting of 0 - 5 points. Points will be based on participation, sportsmanship, and performance.
B. In PE class a skills test may be given at the middle or end of modules.
C. A final grade will consist of an average of points a student has accumulated throughout the marking period.
D. In order to receive a daily grade, a student must be appropriately dressed and participate in the class. Middle school student are required to wear athletic clothes.
E. Any student missing class for any unexcused reason or not dressing will receive a grade of 0. Students who are not dressed will have to sit out of gym class.
III. Athletic clothes
A. Shirts and shorts are acceptable for gym class. Sweatpants or warm-up pants are also acceptable
B. Please be sure shorts are school appropriate length.
C. Sleeveless shirt are ok, but please not tank tops.
D. Any other dress code issues or questions come up, please just ask and I will help resolve any issues or questions.
